Biography

Garrett Beatty is the Academic Integrity specialist and a manager at the University of Calgary’s Student Success Centre. In this role, Garrett provides UCalgary students with education and support related to academic integrity and works in collaboration with faculty associate deans to develop and maintain academic misconduct reporting processes and standards while centering the student experience. In addition to his work in academic integrity, Garrett also oversees the Writing Support Centre and the Thrive Early Alert Program.

Prior to taking over academic integrity education, Garrett worked in international education for six years, supporting a population of almost 7,000 international students from all over the world. During his time in international education he held a legal designation which authorized him to provide students with Canadian immigration advice, oversaw multiple international student programs, designed and instructed an intercultural capacity-building program, advocated for international student needs on dozens of campus committees, and represented the post-secondary sector on the City of Calgary’s newcomer support and advocacy group, CLIP (Calgary Local Immigration Partnership). Garrett has presented nationally and internationally on the work he has done to support international students and is a strong believer in the importance of centering newcomer voices and experiences on our journey to building a more inclusive Canada.
