Biography

Elizabeth is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Political Science at the University of Calgary. She was previously a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Center for International Security and Cooperation (CISAC) at Stanford University and held fellowships at Harvard Kennedy School’s Belfer Center, Harvard Law School’s Program on Negotiation, the US Institute of Peace, Northwestern University’s Buffett Institute for Global Affairs, and Canada’s Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council.

Elizabeth works at the intersection of international relations and comparative politics, focusing on peace and security, and gender and politics. She specializes in women’s representation in peace negotiations. Elizabeth questions how gendered power dynamics influence peace negotiation outcomes for women and tests the conditions under which women secure substantive outcomes. Her multi-method research employs statistical analysis, randomized controlled trial experiments, text analysis, process tracing, and case study research. Elizabeth’s research has been published in the American Political Science Review.

Elizabeth holds a Ph.D. from Northwestern University and an M.A. from the University of British Columbia. She previously worked as a Gender Specialist with UNDP in Kosovo and as a Gender Consultant for USAID in Ghana.
