Background
Biography
Elizabeth Benson is the Executive Director for Critical Care, Cardiac Sciences, Respiratory Services, and Allied Health at the Peter Lougheed Centre. Elizabeth’s clinical career in Nursing began in Cape Town, South Africa prior to immigrating to Canada in 1992. Her healthcare career in Canada has been in various settings and disciplines, including rural, urban, academic, both in clinical and leadership positions. Prior to joining the PLC as Executive Director, Elizabeth managed a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit for five years. She has a BScN in Nursing and earned a Master of Nursing from Athabasca University in 2014. Elizabeth is passionate about developing and supporting highly dedicated teams, focused on safety and the provision of quality patient and family-centered care.
Outside of work Elizabeth is a Six Star World Marathon Majors recipient, and enjoys family time in the mountains, hiking, cycling, and skiing.
