Meristem development during embryogeny. The importance of meristems in plant growth and development has long been recognized. However, little information is available for meristem development during embryo development. Therefore, we are focusing our attention on meristem development in different zygotic and somatic embryo systems. Besides detailed structural analyses, experimental studies are also carried out to investigate the factor(s) affecting meristem initiation, its development and maintenance. A proper understanding of meristem development is essential in in vitro embryogenesis and organogenesis.
