Dr. Pillai's group conducts translational research with the aim of developing new treatment and diagnostic strategies for pathogens of global health importance such as infectious diarrhea and malaria. Current field-based collaborations exist with partners in Ethiopia, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka. A major focus is on capacity-building and reducing disparities in order to improve health outcomes. Our group is currently working on improving diagnosis of malaria in pregnancy using novel molecular tools in order to improve outcomes for mother and child.
