Research

Areas of Research

Syntax, semantics, psycholinguistics

All sentences have internal structure, and those structures construct sentential meaning. These structures are not directly observable, but they are processed in our brains on the fly as we hear or read language. Using a combination of behavioural tasks and collections of judgments and interpretations, we develop models of that unconscious language competence. 

My research uses these experimental evidence to explore different areas of meaning disambiguation, including the interpretation of pronouns, and of sentences with ellipsis. Our lab works with open source software to collect data, sharing our code as part of a commitment to open science.
