Biography

David holds a PhD in history from the University of Calgary (2016), specializing in Canadian, American, and First World War studies. David was born in New Brunswick and grew up there and in Toronto, attending university in Ottawa (BA, MA, Carleton University). Before moving to Calgary in 2009, David spent 11 years in Korea, including a stint as a visiting professor and department coordinator at Pusan National University (2001-9), where he taught history, political science, global studies, and English literature. Since 2017, David has been employed as a historian in the History and Commemoration Branch, Indigenous Affairs and Cultural Heritage Directorate, Parks Canada. He has also been teaching history and Canadian Studies for the past several years at the University of Calgary (since 2011) and Mount Royal University (since 2021). David's book chapters and articles have appeared in The Frontier of Patriotism: Alberta and the First World War, Manitoba History, and the Canadian Encyclopedia. David lives in Calgary with his wife and two children.
