Biography
Colonel Christopher Hunt has served in the Canadian Army for over 32 years, spending 14 years in in the Regular Force, and the remainder in the Army Reserve. He served with Lord Strathcona’s Horse (Royal Canadians), The South Alberta Light Horse, and The King’s Own Calgary Regiment as an armoured officer in both tank and reconnaissance squadrons. Operationally, Colonel Hunt served overseas in Kosovo in 1999, and Afghanistan in 2006. Here in Canada, he participated in the 2000 Pine Lake tornado response, and the 2002 Kananaskis G8 Summit Security Operation, and in 2013 he commanded a reconnaissance squadron during the Southern Alberta floods. Colonel Hunt commanded the King's Own Calgary Regiment from 2016 to 2019, and he was Commander 41 Canadian Brigade Group from 2022 to 2025. He is a graduate of the Joint Reserve Command and Staff Programme, earned a Master of Arts in War Studies and a Bachelor of Arts in Military and Strategic Studies from the Royal Military College of Canada. Colonel Hunt also earned a Certificate in Municipal Management and Leadership through a joint program of the Universities of Manitoba and Alberta. He is also employed with the Government of Alberta as the Executive Director of the Utilities Consumer Advocate. Colonel Hunt has written extensively on force development issues and is currently a Canadian Army International Fellow at the US Army War College.
