Background

Biography

Dr. Charles Kirkby is a Senior Medical Physicist at the Jack Ady Cancer Centre, in Lethbridge, AB, with appointments as an Adjunct Professor in the Departments of Oncology, and Physics and Astronomy, at the University of Calgary. He is also holds a leadership role as a Director At Large (Professional Affairs) of the Canadian Organization of Medical Physicists. He’s been a Member of the Canadian College of Physicists in Medicine since 2009 and a Fellow since 2014. He received his PhD in Medical Physics from the University of Alberta in 2005.

Summary of Research

Dr. Kirkby has a wide array of research interests including the use of machine learning to enhance radiation therapy, novel applications of radiation, nanoparticle-aided radiation therapy, Monte Carlo simulations, the influence of magnetic fields on radiation dosimetry, radiobiology, as well as clinical problems in radiation therapy such as the influence of very low density media on radiation therapy plan optimization.
