Biography

Dr. Chantelle Zimmer is an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Kinesiology and the Senior Manager of the Centre on Aging at the University of Calgary. With over 15 years of experience in research, teaching, and consulting across academic and public sectors, her work focuses on growth and development, aging, and health promotion, with an emphasis on physical, psychological, and social factors that influence physical activity participation.

Chantelle’s research examines how factors like physical literacy, social relationships, and social support affect physical activity participation in younger and older populations. Her goal is to create supportive, inclusive environments that encourage physical activity throughout the lifespan, whether in physical education settings or recreational programs.

In her role at the Centre on Aging, Chantelle leads strategic initiatives that advance transdisciplinary research and training in aging. She also oversees the Centre’s operations and resources. Driven by a commitment to equity and inclusion, she is dedicated to building age-friendly environments that improve the health and well-being of older adults.
