With a strong passion for student services and organizational administration, Carmen has built a career in post-secondary institutions, supporting students, faculty, and staff through various administrative and advisory roles.
Currently, Carmen is the Administration Coordinator for the Strategic Operations Team at the Taylor Institute for Teaching and Learning, where she manages administrative processes related to grants and student hires. Before joining the Taylor Institute, she worked in the Registrar's Office and the Undergraduate Science Centre at the University of Calgary, providing administrative support and services to faculty, current students and alumni.
Prior to her time at UCalgary, Carmen worked in both government-funded and private post-secondary institutions in Hong Kong. Her experience spans student affairs, including managing scholarships and award programs, admissions for student residences, residential life initiatives as well as leadership and volunteer training programs. She has a strong background in fund allocation and management, committee work, and student advising and coaching work.
Carmen also contributed to research in student services, co-authoring and presenting the paper “Revival of a Great Educational Tradition: Adopting the Residential College System in a Private University of Hong Kong” at the 16th Asia Pacific Student Services Association International Conference in 2018.
Carmen earned her Bachelor’s (Honours) degree in Translation and Interpretation from the City University of Hong Kong. In her leisure time, she likes exploring languages, cultural topics, and history. While she is fluent in English, Cantonese, and Mandarin, she has learned Korean and German for years.
