Areas of Research

Sport injury and illness prevention

I specialize in behavioural science, with a focus on the development and implementation of sport injury prevention strategies. My research focuses on understanding psychological and social factors that influence injury risk and prevention behaviours amongst athletes, coaches, referees, clinicians, and sport organisations.

Behaviour change

I utilise established motivational and health behaviour change strategies to inform the development and implementation of health risk management strategies in the community.

Human factors

I am interested in how risk perceptions are formed and how the complex interaction of personal, social, and environmental factors shape risk assessments. I aim to explore how risk perceptions evolve and how they influence decision-making in sport and clinical settings.

Implementation science

My program of applied research involves partnering with academics, clinicians, people from the community, and decision-makers in sport, industry and government. I prioritise hybrid implementation-effectiveness trials, using both quantitative and qualitative methods to ensure interventions are appropriate, acceptable, feasible, and scalable. My work takes place in the laboratory, on the field of play, and in the clinic with a focus on developing, implementing, and evaluating prevention strategies that make a difference in practice.
