Biography

Cameron is an Associate Professor (Teaching) in the Business Technology Management area at the Haskayne School of Business. He has been teaching at Haskayne since 1999 and is currently on sabbatical. He is retiring from teaching on January 1, 2025.

In addition to his academic career, Cam has professional experience as the founder and CEO of a family-based business. Initially, the company focused on tourism, community-based marketing, and environmental management in southwest Alberta. It is now shifting its focus to coaching critical thinking and soft business skills and developing original thinking and case-solving programming for its clients. 

Cam has received several awards and certifications over his time at Haskayne. Notable recognitions include the Dean’s Award for Outstanding Service Leadership for Faculty 2011-2013, Faculty Advisor of the Year at JDC West (2012, 2018, and 2021), and back-to-back Best Coach awards at the Engineering Commerce Case Competition in 2016 and 2017. He is a certified Instructional Skills Workshops Facilitator and obtained a Faculty Teaching Certificate early in his full-time teaching career. 

Cameron has been involved with numerous Haskayne undergraduate and graduate case competition teams, including JDC West, The Engineering Commerce Case Competition, The Collegiate Ethics Case Competition, The John Molson MBA International Case Competition, RSM Star Case Competition, and The McDonough Business Strategy Challenge. In these competitions and others, he has coached 301 teams involving nearly 1,000 students over two decades. At these competitions, he and his teams have received 136 awards including podium finishes, finals, pool runner-ups, and semi-finals. Internationally, he has coached teams at 53 competitions, Those teams have achieved 21 top-three placings, 26 finals, 18 runners-up in preliminary cases, and 15 other awards. 

Cam’s research interests include environmental and social corporate performance reporting in resource-based and tourism organizations. He focuses on systems creation to support performance reporting and knowledge management in the environmental management field. His recent interests involve understanding the characteristics of high-performing student teams and case-solving. Cameron has published in The Journal of Sustainable Tourism and The Journal of Organizational Change Management. He and his co-author Irene Herrremans received the Best Paper in Entrepreneurial Theory Award at the 14th Annual Conference of the Canadian Council for Small Business and Entrepreneurship. 

Beyond academia and business, Cameron is the vice president and a director of the Crowsnest Forest Stewardship Society and has been a member of several Castle Special Places Working Groups. He was a council commissioner for the Chinook Council of Scouts Canada as a Senior Deputy Council Commissioner for Camps and Facilities, He currently sits on the advisory board of Innovatank and is a Founding Member of The World Case Committee Accreditation Program for Case Solving Education. 

In his spare time, he enjoys fly fishing, hiking, road and mountain biking, and photography.
