Biography

Cameron is a senior instructor in the Business Technology Management area at the Haskayne School of Business. He has been teaching at Haskayne since 1999. Cameron has received a BSc (Zoology), BA (Psychology), and MBA from the University of Calgary. Cameron's professional experience includes being the founder and CEO of a family-based business with interests in tourism, community-based marketing, and environmental management in the Crowsnest Pass in southwest Alberta.

During his career, Cameron has received numerous awards including four Haskayne service awards along with four case team coaching awards. His service awards include Dean’s Award for Outstanding Service Leadership for Faculty 2011-2013. He is the only faculty advisor to receive the Faculty Advisor of the Year at JDC West more than twice (2012, 2018, and 2021) and has won back-to-back Best Coach awards at the Engineering Commerce Case Competition in 2016 and 2017.

Cameron is involved with numerous Haskayne undergraduate and graduate case competition teams. Teams he has coached include JDC West, Engineering Commerce Case Competition, Collegiate Ethics Case Competition, John Molson MBA International Case Competition, RSM Star, and the Ted Rogers Ethical Leadership Case Competition. He has seen his teams reach the podium many times and includes multiple podiums by teams at a few of the competitions.  His record includes 110 podium finishes, finals, pool runner-ups, and semi-finals over 170 plus teams since October 2015. Internationally, he has coached teams in 52 competitions with 20 top three placing over 25 finals with an additional 18 runners-up in preliminary cases and semi-finals along with 15 other awards.

Cameron’s areas of research interest include the reporting of environmental and social corporate performance in resource-based and tourism organizations. This interest extends the collection of data and the creation of systems to support performance reporting and knowledge management in the environmental management area. His latest interests involve developing an understanding of what makes a high-performing student team. Cameron’s work has been published in the Journal of Sustainable Tourism and the Journal of Organizational Change Management. Cameron and his co-author Irene Herrremans received the Best Paper in Entrepreneurial Theory Award at the 14th Annual Conference of the Canadian Council for Small Business and Entrepreneurship.

Cameron is the vice president of the Crowsnest Forest Stewardship Society and has been a member of numerous Castle Special Places Working Groups. He is also a member of IIBA. In his spare time, he enjoys fly fishing, hiking, road and mountain biking, and photography.
