Brandon Eggleston

Biography

Brandon is from Medicine Hat, Alberta, and taught philosophy at Medicine Hat College from 2023 to 2025. He holds a Bachelor of Science in honors astrophysics, a Bachelor of Education in secondary education, and a Master of Philosophy, all from the University of Alberta.

Brandon's PhD thesis is on Advaita Vedānta, which is a school of thought within Hindu philosophical traditions. His research currently focuses on how arguments for and against the illusoriness and sublation of the world are or are not consistent with commentaries on ancient scripture by Adi Śaṅkarācārya, who is the most famous classical proponent of Advaita Vedānta.

Brandon is also working on a couple of other projects unrelated to Hindu philosophy. One project he is working on is in the philosophy of science, where he is developing an agential framework for understanding the evolution of octopus intelligence. Another project is in political philosophy, where he is developing arguments against the notion that spontaneous and serendipitous encounters with strangers and acquaintances enhance our freedom in significant ways.

In his spare time, Brandon enjoys hiking, playing video games and board games, watching sumo wrestling, practicing kendo, and hanging out with his wife and cat.
