Biography

Bianca is a master's student in the Clinical Neurosciences program at the University of Calgary, where she is investigating return to work following concussion. Bianca began her research career as a practicum student at the Hull-Ellis Concussion and Research Clinic, where Dr. Paul Comper supervised her. In Dr. Debert's lab, her research is conducted as part of the RAPID Concussion Study, which recruits concussion patients from the emergency department and follows them throughout their recovery. Bianca holds a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Psychology from Toronto Metropolitan University and completed a minor in Biology. As part of a research practicum, Bianca was the first TMU student at the Hull-Ellis Concussion and Research Clinic. Her interest in studying concussion recovery stems from personal experiences with previous concussions and her role as a support system for friends and family members with concussions. Bianca’s knowledge in Psychology and Biology has led her to pursue a Master’s in Clinical Neuroscience, and her current research interests fuel her passion to follow a career path in Occupational Therapy.

Projects

Evaluating clinical predictors for return to work following acute concussion

As part of the Ready Assessment of Diagnostics and Prognostics (RAPID) for Concussion Study, this project follows patients throughout their recovery to track their return-to-work process. We are recruiting individuals presenting to the Foothills Medical Centre Emergency Department between 18 and 65 years old, within one week of sustaining a concussion. We will provide patients with concussion education resources and up-to-date return-to-work guidelines and aim to identify prognostic indicators of protracted return to work following an acute concussion.
