Biography

Dr. Ben Bauer is a Veterinary Specialist in Small Ruminant Health Management (DipECSRHM) with a strong interest in infectious diseases and vaccine development in sheep, goats, and camelids. His research priorities focus on the prevention and control of Coxiella burnetii (Q fever), with an emphasis on an interdisciplinary One Health approach. This work includes novel diagnostic methods, sustainable vaccination strategies for ruminant herds, the development of a new vaccine candidate, and investigations into reservoir host–pathogen interactions.

In addition, he is involved in research projects on the epidemiology and control of Caseous Lymphadenitis (Corynebacterium pseudotuberculosis) and Morel’s Disease (Staphylococcus aureus subsp. anaerobius) in small ruminant flocks in Germany, and in a dairy goat health project in Costa Rica.

Dr. Bauer is an active member of the European College of Small Ruminant Health Management (ECSRHM) and the Australian Q Fever Interest Group (QFIG).
