Background

Biography

Dr. Ann Toohey is a Senior Scientist with the Alberta Health Services Cancer Prevention & Screening Innovation (CPSI) team. She oversees an applied research program designed to address a wide range of upstream modifiable risk factors for cancer. Dr. Toohey also continues to both lead and support projects linked to her population & public health training, which focused on promoting health equity for older adults who are aging in community.

Summary of Research

Our AHS Cancer Prevention & Screening Innovation team adopts implementation science approaches to explore methodologies designed for innovation work to address upstream modifiable risk factors for cancers. We utilize settings-based approaches tailored to urban and rural communities, digital spaces, and workplaces. Most of our projects leverage robust co-design approaches involving both experts and members of target populations.

Critical gerontology

Currently exploring the phenomenon of using animatronic ("robotic") pets for engagement with people living with moderate-to-advanced dementia from a critical gerontology and post-humanist perspective.
