Biography
Angelique Jenney, MSW, PhD, RSW is an Associate Professor and the Wood’s Homes Research Chair in Children’s Mental Health in the Faculty of Social Work, University of Calgary. Dr. Jenney has 25+ years of experience in intervention and prevention services within the gender-based violence (GBV), child protection and children’s mental health sectors. Her community-based research, simulation research and practice interests focus on trauma-informed approaches to working with young people and their families, in addition to the use of reflective, simulation-based learning approaches to training both students and practitioners in the field.

Areas of Research
Dr. Jenney has over 25 years of experience in intervention and prevention services within the violence against women, child protection and children’s mental health sectors. Her community-based, research and practice interests focus on the impact of trauma on children and families on children including: family-based interventions for trauma in children/youth; child protection responses to gender-based violence cases; and the use of reflective, simulation-based learning approaches to training both social work students and practitioners in the field.
Dr. Jenney has been using experiential, simulation-based learning approaches in her teaching, practice and research work for more than 15 years and is particularly interested in how this learning can be applied to the identification and development of skill-based clinical competencies.

Projects
This SSHRC Insight Grant is focused on using simulation (both live and in virtual gaming formats) to identify and develop reflective practice competencies for child and youth care work in therapeutic campus-based care settings.
