Biography

Lahiru Silva, PhD, P.Eng., PMP, PMI-PMOCP is a construction management educator and industry professional with over 30 years of experience spanning commercial construction, project management, workforce development, and higher education in Canada. He currently serves as a sessional instructor at the University of Calgary, where he teaches graduate courses in construction engineering and project management, including ENCI 689.

Dr. Silva is also a faculty member in the Bachelor of Science in Construction Project Management program at the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT), where he teaches construction planning and scheduling,construction productivity, advanced project management, value engineering and construction management fundamentals. His teaching is strongly informed by industry practice and emphasizes constructability, productivity improvement, technology adoption, and professional competencies.

His research interests include construction productivity, skilled workforce attraction and retention, technology-enabled project delivery, and industry–academic collaboration. He has been actively involved in applied research, curriculum development, and professional education initiatives with construction associations, owner organizations, and industry partners across Alberta and Canada.

Dr. Silva is a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.), Project Management Professional (PMP), and PMI-PMO Certified Practitioner, and remains actively engaged with professional and industry organizations. His work reflects a strong commitment to advancing construction education, improving industry performance, and preparing the next generation of construction leaders.
