Biography
Amelia Potter-Dickey, PhD, BN, RN, is a nurse-scientist whose research examines why children exposed to similar experiences can have different developmental and mental health outcomes. Her work integrates developmental science, child mental health research, and biological and genetic perspectives to better understand how children develop within the context of their families and environments.
Her research focuses on child development, caregiving relationships, mental health, resilience, and early life experiences. She is particularly interested in understanding why children exposed to similar experiences can follow different developmental and mental health trajectories, with the goal of informing more effective prevention, early intervention, and support strategies for children and families.
Dr. Potter-Dickey completed her PhD in Nursing at the University of Calgary within the Child Health Intervention and Longitudinal Development (CHILD) Studies program under the supervision of Dr. Nicole Letourneau. Her research has been supported by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research Frederick Banting and Charles Best Canada Graduate Scholarship Doctoral Award, the Canadian Neurodevelopmental Research Training Platform (CanNRT) Fellowship, and the Canadian Nurses Foundation Dr. Dorothy J. Kergin Award.
Her long-term goal is to advance understanding of child and youth mental health in ways that support earlier identification of challenges, strengthen prevention efforts, and improve outcomes for children and families.
