Biography
Amelia Potter-Dickey, PhD, BN, RN, is a nurse scientist whose research examines how biological sensitivity, maternal health, caregiving relationships, and social determinants of health interact to shape resilience among women, children, and families. Her work integrates nursing science, developmental science, genomics, and precision mental health to better understand why individuals and families exposed to similar experiences follow different trajectories of health and well-being.
Her research focuses on maternal health across pregnancy, the postpartum period, and early parenthood, with particular interest in how maternal well-being influences child development, family resilience, and intergenerational health. Through this work, she aims to inform prevention, early intervention, and family-centred approaches that support women, children, and families.
Dr. Potter-Dickey completed her PhD in Nursing at the University of Calgary and is currently a Postdoctoral Associate in the Department of Psychiatry with the Pan-Canadian Initiative Linking Genomic, Environmental and Mental Health Data in Children and Youth (Pan-GEM). Her long-term goal is to advance women's, child, family, and population health by generating evidence that informs equitable, prevention-focused nursing care.
