Biography

Dr. Alexis Koulidis is an Assistant Professor in Intelligent Drilling and Completion within the Department of Chemical and Petroleum Engineering at the Schulich School of Engineering, University of Calgary. He holds a Diploma (5-year Integrated Master's) in Mineral Resources Engineering from the Technical University of Crete, an M.Sc. in Petroleum Engineering from Montanuniversität Leoben, and a Ph.D. in Energy Resources and Petroleum Engineering from King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST). Prior to joining the University of Calgary, he served as a Postdoctoral Researcher at Delft University of Technology (2023–2026). Dr. Alexis Koulidis’s research and teaching expertise centers on drilling engineering across oil & gas, underground thermal energy storage (UTES), groundwater, and geothermal applications. His core specializations include drilling fluid design and hydraulics, drill bit mechanics and downhole sensing, and well integrity. His research program operates across four integrated pillars: near-bit and surface sensing, advanced well integrity and completions, real-time drilling data analytics and AI-driven data integration using computer vision and edge analytics.
