Dr. Alexandra Giancarlo is an assistant professor of socio-cultural studies of sport and physical activity. She researches the connections between physical culture and cultural identity in Black and Indigenous communities, most recently examining residential school sports and recreation.

She is also interested in issues related to the broader socio-cultural sport landscape, such as gender, sexuality, and physical culture; non-Western sports and physical culture; sport for reconciliation; and newcomer experiences with sports and physical activity.
