Biography

Dr. Leung is an associate professor in the departments of Medicine and Community Health Sciences in the Cumming School of Medicine, and a member of the Libin Cardiovascular Institute of Alberta and the O'Brien Institute for Public Health. He is an endocrinologist (a doctor specializing in hormonal disorders) and clinician-researcher. He received his medical degree from the University of Alberta, completed his research training in clinical effectiveness at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard University in Boston, MA, USA.

His work is focused on finding ways to improve the quality of care for people living with high blood pressure using innovative and individualized strategies. In particular, he is passionate about finding better ways to diagnose hormonal causes of high blood pressure, which can often be reversible with specialized treatment. In recognition of his clinical and academic work, he was awarded the Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee Medal, the “Top 40 Under 40” by Avenue Magazine in Calgary, the Heart and Stroke Foundation’s National New Investigator Award, Hypertension Canada’s Jacques de Champlain New Investigator Award, and the Petro Canada Young Innovator Award in Community Health.
