Biography

I hold a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Tabriz (2003) and a Master of Science in Applied Mechanics from Tarbiat Modares University (2006), where my research focused on vibration condition monitoring and fault diagnosis.  Between 2003 and 2008, I gained industry experience as an engineer, working in both part-time and full-time capacities within the automotive manufacturing and oil and gas sectors.

In 2013, I completed my PhD in Mechanical Engineering at Memorial University of Newfoundland, graduating with distinction and specializing in structural vibrations.  Following my doctoral studies, I undertook an Industrial Postdoctoral Fellowship with Subsurface Imaging Technology, where I researched the feasibility of using salt caverns in Newfoundland.  In 2014, I joined the Project neuroArm at the University of Calgary as a Postdoctoral Scholar, contributing to the design of robotic surgical tools and vibration technology for biomedical applications.

In August 2016, I began my academic career in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Calgary as an Assistant Professor (Teaching).  I was promoted to Associate Professor (Teaching) with tenure in July 2021.  Throughout my academic tenure, I have developed and delivered courses in applied mechanics, dynamics, and vibrations.  My teaching philosophy emphasizes active learning strategies, including collaborative term projects, demonstration tools, and engaging lectures that foster critical thinking.  Since 2016, I integrated findings from educational research into course design and assessment methods, with a focus on student engagement, project-based learning, and mastery of course content.

In April 2021, I joined the Schulich School of Engineering Dean’s Office as the Assistant Dean – Academic Programs and Students.  In June 2022, I transitioned to the role of Associate Dean – Student Success and Interdisciplinary Academic Programs, where I provided leadership for initiatives such as the first-year program, Schulich Studio.  By May 2024, my portfolio expanded further to include overseeing of Schulich teams and clubs, professional development, scholarships, and global experiences.  In these capacities, I contribute to several strategic committees, driving policy development and implementation while addressing both academic and non-academic challenges faced by students.  Additionally, I oversee processes including transfer credit evaluations, academic misconduct investigations, and faculty-level reappraisals and appeals.

Since 2016, I have been involved in outreach and volunteer activities.  I served as an Academic Examiner for the APEGA Board of Examiners for three years and have been a mentor on the APEGA Student Liaison Committee since 2014.

I am a registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with APEGA in Alberta since 2014.
