Exploration and recovery of Critical Minerals Resources (primary ores, byproducts, tailings)

Study participants

I am seeking students interested in contributing to research on the sources of minerals essential for the energy transition.

Background

Educational Background

PhD Resource Engineering, Delft University of Technology, 2019

MSc GIS & Remote sensing | Mineral exploration, ITC Faculty - University of Twente, 2013

BSc Geology, Universidad Nacional de Colombia, 2009

Research

Areas of Research

Sourcing of critical mineral resources

Enhanced understanding of primary and secondary sources of critical mineral resources (unprocessed ores, waste rocks and tailings) using lab and field techniques for geochemistry and mineralogy.

Sensor-based material characterization in the mining value chain

Integration of upstream (exploration, extraction) and midstream (processing, beneficiation) processes and proactive mine waste management through the implementation of sensor technologies for real-time material characterization.

Policy frameworks for resilient critical minerals value chains

Layout of strategies that support the recovery of critical metals from primary and secondary ores using an integrated mining cycle.

Participation in university strategic initiatives
