Biography

Dr. Adam Muzychuk is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Section of Ophthalmology, Department of Surgery, at the University of Calgary’s Cumming School of Medicine. He is a clinician-scientist and ophthalmic surgeon whose academic work focuses on cataract and refractive surgery, intraocular lens technology, surgical outcomes, visual quality, astigmatism management, biometry and surgical planning. 

Dr. Muzychuk leads and conducts clinical research in ophthalmology and has served as Principal Investigator and Lead Investigator on clinical studies evaluating intraocular lens technologies and patient outcomes. His research program includes prospective and retrospective clinical studies, multicentre trials, real-world evidence studies, and investigator-led analyses of surgical and refractive outcomes.

His recent peer-reviewed research includes a randomized controlled Canadian clinical trial evaluating a full-range-of-vision intraocular lens and a study comparing ultra-low-power toric and non-toric intraocular lenses. He is also involved in ongoing prospective and multicentre clinical studies in ophthalmic surgery.

In addition to his research activities, Dr. Muzychuk holds national academic leadership roles in ophthalmology, including leadership of scientific meetings and surgical education programs. He is actively involved in resident and medical student education, clinical research mentorship, scientific presentation, peer review, and the translation of clinical evidence into surgical practice.

Additional distinctions include performing the world’s first commercial implantation of the enVista Envy full visual range intraocular lens in 2024 and the first implantation in Canada of the TECNIS Odyssey full visual range intraocular lens in 2025. Dr. Muzychuk also authored the first peer-reviewed publication globally reporting clinical outcomes with the enVista Envy lens.

His academic distinctions include the Canadian Glaucoma Society Best Glaucoma Paper Award, the University of Calgary Master Teacher Award for outstanding achievement in resident physician education, and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons Best Paper of the Session Award.
